Salt Dough is one of the oldest DIY Crafts in the books! From platters to ornaments to jewelry holders, the possibilities are endless with salt dough! This is such a great way to pass the time during quarantine and can be used as a Mothers or Fathers Day gift…and it is SO easy. Follow the steps below to make your own salt dough platter!

STEP 1: MAKE THE DOUGH

SALT DOUGH INGREDIENTS:

-1 cup of flour

-1 cup of salt

-1/2 cup of water

  1. In a mixing bowl, pour your salt into water until it is almost all dissolved

  2. Add the flour to the mixing bowl and kneed it until it feels like playdough (your kids will be pros at this part) If it is sticky, add more flour.

  3. Roll out the dough into any shape you would like! We made ours into a platter so we could fit all of our handprints!

STEP 2: Personalize

This part is fun because this is how you make your salt dough truly one of a kind! Gather up your “QuaranTEAM” and have everyone press their hand into the dough - yes, furry family members too!

STEP 3: Bake

Place the dough with all of your handprints onto sheet pan, make sure to put down foil or parchment paper first as you do not want it to stick to the sheet pan! Then you are going to bake the dough at 200 degrees for 2 and a half hours - until the dough is hardened!

STEP 4: Painting Time

After you take the dough out of the oven and let it cool for about an hour - it’s time to pull out the paints! First you will want to paint a white coat over the whole thing. Then, have each family member pick out their favorite color and let them each paint their handprint!
