You recognize him from Scandal, Friends, Family Ties, and of course, as Bryan MacKenzie from the iconic, Father of the Bride movies. He continues to act in countless other shows and movies! Find out how this talented actor went from Little Rock, Arkansas to the big screen, as well as his encounters with Back to the Future and Brad Pitt!

This week features guest, George Newbern, whose film and television career has spanned several decades. He began participating in children's theater when he was about eleven years old in his hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas. While attending Northwestern University, he had the opportunity to audition for the movie, Back To The Future. Although he didn't get the role of Marty McFly, this motivated him to move to Los Angeles to find out what other auditions were available. Today, he has a versatile career, currently playing Charlie on Scandal.

Meet George Newbern
George Newbern’s career in film and television has spanned several decades and has shown his immense versatility, from his debut arch as Payne McIlroy in Designing Women to his current role as the xxx assassin, Charlie, on Scandal. From Designing Women, Newbern went on to recur on Working Girl and his career in television continued to grow as he joined famed television series Chicago Hope, Friends, Bull, Providence and Nip/Tuck, for regular and recurring roles. He has also made guest appearances on television series including CSI, Criminal Minds, Private Practice, The Mentalist, Boston Legal, Grey’s Anatomy and Cold Case - to name just a few.

In his feature film debut, Newbern starred opposite Steve Martin and Diane Keaton in Father of the Bride and reprised his role in Father of the Bride II. Newbern’s career includes a multitude of voiceover roles, including Justice League, Theodore Rex and Batman: Gotham Knight. Newbern has been the voice of Superman in various DC iterations of the iconic superhero as well as on the animated series Static Shock and The Batman. He has also done voice work for the video games Final Fantasy X-2, Kingdom Hearts II and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.

George was born December 30 in Little Rock, Arkansas and graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in Theatrical Arts in 1986. Newbern resides in Los Angeles with his wife, two daughters and son.
